Notes from the Director
The New Hope Board of Directors is grateful to The Freeman Foundation for granting New Hope the FACES award for the third year in a row.
The FACES grant will allow us to continue the summer and after school programs. This year’s summer program was an overall success, and valuable experience for our youth as well as staff.
As a part of the program, we embarked on an afternoon golfing trip to the Shamrock Farm Golf course. It was a great time and our youth could not get enough.
Academically, our curriculum consisted of math, reading and science, which were administered in the mornings. Our youth continued the D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) program. Also, The Bookmobile stopped at the New Hope Center once a week. All social and recreational activities took place in the afternoon after completion of the academic component.
This year’s activities included a trip to the Freeman Stage to see Oliver Twist. The kids throughly enjoyed the performance. This was followed by trips to the bowling alley, a Shorebirds baseball game, Killen’s Pond, field day, water activities, and the summer finale to Splash Mountain in Ocean City, Maryland.
The closing program will take place with a performance by The Sankofa Dancers at which time we will award certificates to our youth.
There are no words that can express how much I appreciate the efforts of so many wonderful people that make this program successful. I would like to say thank you to our guest lecturers, volunteer parents, the New Hope staff and our many supporters.
